Nacque a La Morra nel 1889 alla Cascina Manescotto dei conti Falletti di Castiglione dove il padre faceva il mezzadro. Nel 1923 se ne andò a Torino ad aprire una trattoria ed una bottiglieria con mescita in via Nizza 93 a Torino.  Nel 1928 comprò l'Hotel Savona ad Alba.  Nel 1929 per la prima volta Giacomo Morra pubblicizzò il tartufo alla Fiera di Alba. Conia il marchio Tartufalba e inventa la prima fiera del tartufo bianco, rigorosamente “D’Alba”. Nel 1949 Giacomo Morra inviò in regalo il più grande dei suoi tartufi alla famosa attrice Rita Hayworth. Nel 1951 invia il tartufo dei record, 2,5 kg al presidente degli Stati Uniti Truman.   Nel 1954 invia il tartufo dell’anno a Marilyn Monroe, nel 1960 riesce a portare all’hotel Savona Alfred Hitchcock e la moglie Alma Reville. “La signora e il signor Churchill hanno gustato e particolarmente apprezzato”, il laconico messaggio che arriva dalla segreteria dello statista britannico. Negli anni a venire ogni anno invierà un tartufo tra i più pregiati in dono a personaggi famosi tra cui: Harry Truman, Winston Churchill, Marylin Monroe, Eisenhover, Nikita Krusciov, Papa Paolo VI, Papa Giovanni Paolo II, Sofia Loren, Alfred Hitckcok, Ronald Reagan, Michail Gorbaciov, Giovanni Agnelli, Luciano Pavarotti, lo stilista Valentino, Valeria Marini, il Principe Alberto di Monaco. Morra morì per un'emorragia cerebrale il 18 dicembre del 1963, all'età di 74 anni.

In 1929, Giacomo Morra advertised the truffle for the first time at the Alba Fair. He coined the Tartufalba brand and invented the first white truffle fair, strictly "D'Alba". In 1949 Giacomo Morra sent the largest of his truffles as a gift to the famous actress Rita Hayworth. In 1951 he sent the record truffle, 2.5 kg, to US President Truman. In 1954 he sent the truffle of the year to Marilyn Monroe, in 1960 he managed to bring Alfred Hitchcock and his wife Alma Reville to the Savona hotel. “Mrs. and Mr. Churchill enjoyed and particularly appreciated,” the laconic message that comes from the British statesman's secretariat.
